I've always said that living in the deep ghetto during my college years has given me a great appreciation for how far I've come. The same can be said for some of the "questionable" design decisions made in the early days of game consoles. It really makes niceties like ergonomic controllers and...color easy to appreciate.
This article from tech blog Technologizer chronicles 15 such missteps across console history. Some, such as monochrome displays, can be chalked up to cost cutting or technological limitations, but others are just old fashioned, home grown bad design.
